Just the Two of Us

Before Bethany arrived, it was just the two of us.

For nearly eight years, while Sam was hard at work providing for our family, Austin and I were like best buds on what seemed like an endless playdate. Sure things changed once he went to school, but we always found time to have some fun. Just the two of us.

In the past year though, our family has gone through a lot of changes. Wonderful changes, but changes nevertheless. As a result, this mommy has gotten a bit busier and way more tired (emphasis on way). Fun nowadays means staying home and squeezing in a cat nap or two.

I've been feeling especially guilty since Austin had three weeks off for Christmas and not once was I able to do something special with just him. We've had plenty of fun with family and friends, but honestly, I think I was having Austin withdrawal.

So what did I do? I declared today a Mommy and Austin day, a day for just the two of us. Just like old times.

First stop - Early showtime for Tangled.

Second Stop - McDonald's for lunch

Austin thought our Mommy and Son time was over but I had one more stop planned for us.

Third stop - Chuck  E. Cheese

I think I probably had more fun today than Austin did. He is growing up so fast and I know his life will only get busier as he gets older. For now, he's still the little boy that sees nothing wrong with holding hands and hugging and kissing his mom in front of his friends. I know it may not stay that way for too much longer, so at least for my sake, I need to make sure to carve out time for just me and him. I want to do whatever I can to continue to hold on to this special bond we have and enjoy each other until I'm old and gray. :)

When we returned home, we were greeted with squeals of delight from Bethany (the kind where she shakes her fists). As I wrapped her in my arms, I smiled knowing that she and I would also share many wonderful memories together.... just the two of us.

He just sounds like the sweetest boy. I love that you were able to spend some time just with your boy.
